Barrow Eyes Opportunities For Jawa Conference Centre

Gambia’s Adama Barrow has Saturday expressed hope that the newly inaugurated Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre will create opportunities “to attract and host meetings, incentive travels, conventions, conference and exhibitions.”

“Besides creating avenues for important decision makers to visit our country, the centre will surely provide opportunities for employment, open up the tourism industry, enhance transport services, and expose our diversity and culture to the world,” he said in his address delivered at the commissioning of the country’s first-ever Int’l Conference Centre.

The Gambia – China diplomatic ties  have entered into a new phase with the inauguration of the ‘architectural marvel,’ which is named after the country’s first President, Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara.The project is expected to take bilateral cooperation to new highs as both countries vowed to take a big step toward the extension of ties.

“Some of you will recall that during the 2018 FOCAC Summit, the People’s Republic of China announced eight major initiatives to collaborate with African countries, including The Gambia,” he added.

Barrow said the historic achievement signals a new era of opportunities, potential prosperity and dignity for Gambians.

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Ma Jinchuan, reiterated the Chinese government commitment to strengthening cooperation with The Gambia in the area of infrastructure.

“At the same, we will continue to deepen the bilateral cooperation in capacity building, and invite more Gambian friends to pursue degree in short-term training program in China, as to promote social and economic development of The Gambia,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the Minister for Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Bai Lamin Jobe, disclosed that over 20 Gambians from various sectors were given training in China on how to operate and manage the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Int’l Conference Centre.

He seized the opportunity to commend all those who have been involved in the planning, execution and monitoring of the project.
