One Anthony Gomez joined a United Democratic Party gathering at Lawyer Ousainou Darboe’s house pretending to be a party supporter who came to express his sympathy. Gomez seemed to be concerned about the government’s brutal politically motivated crackdown on the UDP’s leadership. The party is in desperate need of sympathy and supporter but in a nation where walls have ears and eyes see invisible, there should be no room left for complacency.
Gomez was treated with suspicion. A search was mounted on him. Anthony Gomezs secret identity was detected. He was found to be an agent of the feared National Intelligence Agency whose goal is to gather intelligence on the UDP’s strategy on managing a crisis that balloons from the death of Solo Sandeng in state custody. It is all about consolidating the powers of President Jammeh even if it means at the expense of Gambian blood.
Since the crisis began in mid-April, UDP security has been putting on a high alert team that is determined and committed to changing the face of the struggle. Gambians have always been nice and soft. however, since the public is dealing with a gang of criminals, it is not therefore going to be politics as usual and no one should see the Gambian scenario as normal politics. UDP militants are again pouring into Banjul to cheer and support their heroes.
One thing that Janmeh’s spy agency fails to understand is that they are dealing with a new UDP.
Antony Gomez was an ex-military officer posted at Fajara Barracks. He used to teach soldiers’ children before he joined the military. He was a teacher at Saint Michael primary school at Njongon in North Bank Region.
