Alleged Coup Plotter’s Minor Freed

Pa Alieu LoweAgents of the feared National Intelligence Agency (NIA) have released the 13-year-old son of Baboucarr ‘Bai’ Lowe, one of the men accused of launching an attack on State House in Banjul on December 30th, 204.

Bai’ Lowe, a former Warrant Officer Class 2 of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), is a dissident based in Germany.

So far, no reasons were advanced for the release of Yusupha Lowe and his 19-year-old uncle Pa Alieu Lowe on Friday. The duo spent 43 days in illegal detention during which they were denied their right to appear before a competent court of law within 72 hours or freed. Yusupha and Pa Alieu who did not have access to their family also missed school during the period.

The boys’ family in Lamin, Kombo North, confirmed the release. The family is delighted to see the boys returned home to re-unite with them.

It could be recalled that NIA agents on January 1 picked up the Lowe boys together with the ex-wife of Baboucarr Lowe, Jariatou Lowe, in their family residence in Lamin. Jariatou Lowe was released on February 5th after 36 days in illegal detention without trial.

This is magnanamous of President Jammeh.

    It is never too late

  2. Lafia Touray la Manju

Mike, magnanimous? Should he have been arrested in the first place let alone detained beyond the 72hrs constitutional limit?? This guy needs to be compensated with millions before the word ” magnanimous” can sound appropriate.

You are probably taking human rights for granted because it is in abundance in Her Majesty’s realm. Well, not in The Gambia.

    Thanks

  3. This is madness in every aspect . Jammeh should understand that when he staged his coup he never inform Asombi Bojang , therefore these brave and patriotic citizen’s parents , sons , daughters and family members shouldn’t have been arrested and detained beyond constitutional requirements of 72 hours . This was total violation of their rights especially a minor who has no knowledge of his father’s involvement . Jammeh has no regard for human rights . How would he feel if his family is arrested the day is topple from the government ? Dictator Jammeh should understand that whatever he do today will back to haunt him.

  4. In light of the update from Kairo News….I stand corrected.

I can only feel shame…for me for the international community and for the “big Man”
