‘Don’t Spread Lies About Those Fighting With You’

Jainaba Bah

No matter how messy the fight turns out, it is never acceptable to spread lies about people who have been fighting against a dictator.

Those were the remarks by Stockholm-based Gambian activist. Jainaba Bah, who last week resigned from the Committee for the Restoration of Democracy in the Gambia (CORDEG), told Kairo Radio “If you want to fight a dictator, you don’t spread lies about people who have been fighting with you.”

Jainaba Bah explained how she had been ridiculed and maliciously framed by some CORDEG executive members. She said upon return from Mecca, majority of CORDEG members did not welcome her with open arms. Mrs. Bah pointed accusing fingers at CORDEG Secretary General, Abdoulie Jobe, blaming him for telling people “I have reconciled with my former husband Sarjo Jallow who is an Ambassador in Ethiopia and that I am a spy who must not be trusted.”

“I have never left my husband or divorced,” she refuted, saying her accusers should have put her to test and see whether she would deliver. “If I am a spy, put me to task. What you should understand is that I have my word to the world that I will do the task. Put me to test to see whether I will deliver. My words mean everything to me.”

Mrs. Bah said the resignation of Gambia Democratic Action Group (GDAG) has nothing to do with leadership hassle. She asked how that could be the case when the group’s representative, Alkali Conteh, nominated Dr. Abdoulaye Saine as the Chairman of CORDEG. “It has never been an issue of position or leadership. It was Alkali Conteh who nominated Dr. Saine.”

Jainaba said the CORDEG election was not fair as evidenced by the manipulation. “Some people lobbied behind the scene. I was told that Banka Manneh called Demba Dem asking him to withdraw and change his vote. After the election, Abdoulie Jobe called Dem, bragging how he had trashed Alkali Conteh,” she alleged. Jainaba would not understand why “a very consistent person like Alkali Conteh has been edged out. The man who put a lot of efforts in moving the Gambian struggle forward.”

Jainaba described Mr. Conteh as a role model who inspired her to join CORDEG. Bah’s Stockholm Dialogue was invited to the Steering Committee by GDAG through Alkali Conteh who wanted to get people from across board. She said she was inspired and wanted to be part of CORDEG so she could make a difference. I didn’t join CORDEG to fight with anybody; Yahya Jammeh is the common enemy. If we have to fight Yahya Jammeh we have to unite. It is very important for those at the center of struggle for change to do the right thing. That is not the case with CORDEG.”

  1. Jainaba is a lady of substance, principled mature, humble and dedicated to the liberation of her people all through her life, she is a role model for contemporary Gambian women. Sister keep away from those who are only looking for cheap popularity and money in the name of the Poor and oppressed people of the Gambia.

  2. Jainaba why n ow? say that the election is not fair
some people are after postion.this leadership is an issue for us gambian’s.

  3. Ebrahim Jaiteh

I think is a legitimate concern, how can your husband be an ambassador of a regime and you been at the center of the struggle, it does not smell good in my opinion.

  4. Abdoulie darboe

Back away with your false allegation! You cannot manipulate the sister, she is no fool. Cordeg should resign. Mr Saine went to Freedom Radio making stories and trying to devbiate from the truth of the matter that is they have failed Gambians. You talk bla bla bla against opposition but you Mr Jobe perhaps,is not good to stay in a white man country too long. What is wrong if they are udp members!Couch pa samba jaw jumping saying, you see this is like NADD,some people if they do not have it their way they quit. And couch do not hear the other side of the stories,pa samba jaw also bring in the NADD so that people can say this is a UDP problem. What do you guys want,do you thing you can manipulate gambia because you have this cheap journalist at your side.come on!Only the truth can bring change in the gambia, this change is like fire and no water can put off this fire.STOP THIS FALSE ALLEGATION AND MR SAINE,MR JOBE SHOULD RESIGN!PEACE BE UPON ALL OF US!

  5. Lafia Touray la Manju

Jainaba Bah, you have my trust, respect and vote for the position of chairperson of CORDEG.

  6. Lafia Touray la Manju

Sonko, they did say that although the election was skewed in favour of Dr. Saine and his cohorts, it was not one of the issues that necessitated their resignation from CORDEG. Their complaint is about CORDEG’s blatant deviation from their mandate as enshrined in the raliegh accord, and also the lack of willingness within CORDEG to adhere to their own stipulated one year term limit. So don’t come here and try to impugn the integrity of our dear lady of impeccable integrity, Jainaba Bah Pullo (Fula Foro)

  7. Lafia Touray la Manju

Ebrima Jaiteh, I think yours is about perception rather than reality. However, if there was a reasonable suspicion (this has to be supported by some form of evidence but does not necessarily have to be a hard proof) that our dear lady is a spy, she should have been engaged on the matter formally rather than the likes of ablaye jobe back stabbing and spreading rumours about her.

With the kind of intelligence and maturity showed on radio, I think she would have explained herself well or even resign in the interest of the common good. The fact that her enstranged husband work for the regime does not necessarily Make her a spy. Her marriage is in trouble because of her husband’s support for the regime for God Sake!! They are separated anyway.

Sorry sister J for dwelling on your private life. You deserve better.

  8. Lafia Touray la Manju

Jainaba Bah Pullo. Fula botaa jaaba sirimang; jaaba siiro ning jaaba Morri. Fula banna.

I am proud of you and very much moved by your story. God bless you sis.

  9. the are only two kinds of men in this world, honest men and dishonest men and not the pride of politicians, but the stupidity of politicians. jainaba you are right and may God be with you and your family and all those who stand for the truth..Dr sain need to go and all his associate, they fail all the Gambian and they are not honest shame on them.

  10. Lafia Touray la Manju

Burr Saine, Lu ma la fi waxon?? People are talking deh.

  11. I do not think one can trust Aboulie Jobe, or Jainaba Bah. These are all ex-Marxist agitators, who along side with Sidia Jatta and Kalifa Sallah pretended to be a democratic alternative to the Jawara’s administration while at the same time clandestinely working to effect a communist overthrow under the banner of the utterly secretive MOJA. Additionally, these were the folks that initially helped the Jammeh administration entrench itself and prepare for all the current atrocities.

  12. Sister Jai,

I have seen this rather late (the school holidays here in UK have just began and I now have time to surf the net). With the massive respect and love that I have for you, I should like to make a few points:-

    1. The title should be: “Don’t tell lies about anyone – even your enemies”. Lies are completely self-defeating and as you know I am imperiously contemptuous of those who tell lies. The daily torrent of lies from the Daily Dirt and others have actually helped Jammeh. When the then British High Commissioner asked me something about Jammeh’s rule at a function in Banjul, I smiled and answered “You have been reading too much of the Daily Dirt”. It was his turn to give me a concessionary smile!

    2. “Ridiculed and maliciously framed” … I am sorry for you, but YOUR COMPATRIOTS practice abroad what they practice at home. Nothing new there!

    3. “My words mean everything to me”. You are, sister, a diamond shining in the mud. God Bless You. I am just sorry that you decided to step into the muddy quagmire in the first place.

Finally, I have a poster hanging on my wall which includes the words: “Don’t lower yourself to their level … it is what they want … walk away from the nonsense with your head held high”.

    Love and Blessings,

    Dida & Jainaba Jallow-Halake.
    London, UK.

    • Who really is this man called Dida Halake? As you can see, he supports Jammeh, he also clearly supports Jainaba Bah, but the two are said to be arch enemies. He (Halake) calls this foe of his beloved Yaya Jammeh “a shining diamond, and a woman he has massive respect and love for.” Only a communist is capable of such hypocritical double stance. I see a man who will comfortably defend any motion and the negation of that same motion.

Yocco, you will not even ask the question when you reach a certain level of intellectual development! But for now, he is a primer for my novice student from Wikipedia:-

“In Chinese philosophy, yin and yang, which are often shortened to “yin-yang” or “yin yang”, are concepts used to describe how apparently opposite or contrary forces are actually complementary, interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. Many tangible dualities (such as light and dark, high and low, hot and cold, fire and water, life and death, male and female, sun and moon, and so on) are thought of as physical manifestations of the duality of yin and yang. This duality lies at the origins of many branches of classical Chinese science and philosophy, as well as being a primary guideline of traditional Chinese medicine and a central principle of different forms of Chinese martial arts and exercise, such as baguazhang, taijiquan (t’ai chi), and qigong (Chi Kung), as well as in the pages of the I Ching.

Yin and yang can be thought of as complementary (rather than opposing) forces that interact to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts. Everything has both yin and yang aspects, (for instance shadow cannot exist without light)

HAPPY LEARNING YOCCO – you may reach 1st Dan level in due course!

    • Really? Why don’t you tell your readers that your so-called “Yin-Yang” thing is in actuality and in this case none other than a line taken from the Maoist nonsense (so-called philosophical essay): ON CONTRADICTIONS?

Indeed, guess what! I can recognize proper (historical) dialectics, when I see it. Thus, again, why don’t you tell us that when you use the term “Yin-Yang”, what you are truly referring to is the murderous so-called “dialectical materialism” of your beloved Carl Marx, Lenin, and Mao, who in all likelihood will remain among history’s most deadly and most murderous political lunatics (criminals)?

  14. Yokko, or whoever your are. It is difficult to teach old dogs new tricks – more so obstinate ones! But being an equally obstinate educator, I will try.

You say: “Yin-Yang, what you are truly referring to is the murderous so-called dialectical materialism of your beloved Carl Marx, Lenin, and Mao”.

    A few points on that:-

    1. Chinese philosophy existed 10,000 years BEFORE Karl Marx’s – or rather Hegel’s – “dialectical materialism” (Karl with a “K” not a “C”);

    2. If it were not for Lenin’s Russia and Mao’s China, Africa would still be under the Colonial Slavery (Mau Mau’s General China – Warihu Itote – is a case in point).

    3. If it were not for Russia, Europe will be speaking German today (the demonisation of Communist Russia only came about AFTER they had saved Europe’s backside from Hitler); And Africa too would be speaking German and learning about the Great Hitler who “freed the slaves”!

    4. Kwame Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyatta, Dr. Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and other great African Liberators were condemned as “Communists” by the great Freedom-Loving US of A.

    5. Finally, because you say elsewhere that Halake should head off to Russia or wherever it is that the “Communists” hang-out, let me point out to you that Karl Marx did most of his writings down the road in the British Library and now rests peacefully just up the road in Highgate Cemetery. Of course, Kenyatta, Nkrumah and Lenin chilled out here in London too.

Finally, please show some evidence of intellectual progress in your next comment – otherwise I will stop hitting my head against a brick wall!

    Mwalimu Halake

    • By the way, Mr. Know-it-all, Hegel did not author your so-called “dialectical” materialism. What Hegel is rightly credited for is Hegel dialectic, and not that erroneous, deadly, so-called theory of history. “Dialectical” materialism, as every undergraduate student of philosophy knows, is the brain-child of Marx and his life-time benefactor Engels, and is not to be confused with Hegel’s philosophy. I am surprised that, with your “expertise” in so many areas (including the correct spelling of the names of some of history’s must callous criminals), you could not tell the difference between the various dialectics:

      1. The dialectic of Socrates (Maieutics)
      2. Hegel dialectic (which its author never pretended could be applied to end your so-called class struggle ), or
      3. Your dialectical materialism (a deadly, treacherous and perilous nonsense.)

Marxists (and Karl himself) may have credited Hegel with being the person who first came up with dialectical materialism, but this is another instance of their lies, distortions, (if not aesopean) double talk.
