Minister Confirms Kurang’s Firing

Justice Minister Abubacarr Tambadou has confirmed the firing of the Secretary to the Commission of Inquiry probing into the financial dealings of ousted President Yahya Jammeh.

“Mr Alhaji Kurang, made a number of unsubstantiated allegations against Counsel Amie Bensouda,” Minister Tambadou told a new conference in Banjul on Monday. “Based on information available to me, Mr Kurang acted beyond the confines of his administrative authority which was principally to execute the orders of the Commission and not to question the wisdom or motivations underpinning those orders. As a result of his actions, and in consultation with the Commission, Mr Kurang’s position as Secretary to the Commission has now become untenable under the circumstances. We wish to thank him for his service and wish him luck in his future endeavours.”

The Minister would not go into details of what exactly Mr. Kurang did. However, his (Kurang’s) firing resulted after social media had been infiltrated with an article written by a concerned citizen, questioning the authority of the Commission’s Lawyer Amie Bensouda. The article also accused Mrs. Bensouda of favouritism.

It is right that he was sacked. He is such an indiscipline twit who simply needed to go. He doesn’t seem to understand administrative procedures or the remits of his own office in relation to the Commission.

  2. I don’t agree with your comment Mr Touray. Look these people are working in the most sensitive Part of our Government. This is something one has to look Deep into and make fact findings because the allegations Kurang made which lead to his firing are very undiplomatic and fussy. I personally find it very dangerous and unfair to Mr Kurang if no Investigation is done because we want to Clean up the country from these currupt practices. I nderstand Mr Kurang’s irrationality but that is nothing when truth has to be told. He can’t just see people taken to inquiry and at the same time they themselves are unclean. My opinion is that let Mr Tambadou rescind the dismissal letter of Mr Kurang and find out whether the alligations are True or not because these very serious. Thanks
