At least seven Gambian middle ranking military officers have had their services terminated after they were accused of proving loyalty to former exiled President Yahya Jammeh.
The 5 Majors and 2 Captains were reportedly caught giving some sensitive national information to Mr. Jammeh in Equatorial Guinea.
Major Karamba Jammeh, Major Alieu Sowe, Major Kebba Gibba, Major Lamin Manneh, Major Gibril Jammeh, Captain Sulayman Jammeh and Captain Abdoulie Bojang have been put under surveillance after the army top command became privy to news of their nefarious activities. The army monitored the suspects until they got busted some weeks communicating sensitive national security details to Yahya Jammeh. Top military brass failed short of publicly stating what Yahya Jammeh wanted to do with such sensitive information. However, both Western and regional government officials some months back against an attack on the new government.
All these military officers who remained detained prior dismissal had personal working relationship with Yahya Jammeh for a long time. A careful look at their positions also provides some clues that the man who had shamelessly leftย power after an election defeat is bent on destabilising the security-fragile Gambia.
Major Karamba Jammeh was an outrider at State House during Yahya Jammeh’s days. He was posted at Yundum Barrack’s Supply and Transport units after the dissolution of State Guard.
Major Alieu Sowe was the Kanilai Farm Manager until Jammeh fled to Equatorial Guinea in January.
Major Kebba Gibba is a Military Intelligence Officer attached to the Banjul International Airport.
Major Lamin Manneh (alias Gilbert) was in charge of Yahya Jammehโs fleet of cars at State. He too was posted to yundum transport unit when Jammeh fell.
Major Gibril Jammeh was a manager of Yahya Jammeh’s farms at Farato and Sifoe.
Captain Sulayman Jammeh, a current Company Commander at Basse Battalion, some days back appeared before the Jannah Commission calling Yahya Jammeh โbabili mansaโ (bridge building leader).
Captain Abdoulie Badjie is a Military Intelligence officer at Fajara Barracks.
Kairo News has been tipped on the army command’s unquestionable vigilantism about about remnants of some mad Jammeh loyalists in the army. “There will be no witch hunting but the army leaders are determined to flush out all traitors using the,” one military officers assured, assuring the general public guaranteed security.
“The citizens must be vigilant and report anything suspicious to the security services.”
