Barrow Rejects Minister’s Resignation

President Adama Barrow has reportedly turned down the resignation of his Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubacarr Baa Tambadou. This development comes in the wake of leaked audio tapes relating to the Minister’s senior brother Sheriff Tambadou. In the said audios secretly recorded by Mrs. Ndura Jawara Badjie, the wife of the former NIA Director Yankuba Badjie, Sheriff had implicated his brother. The leaked audios have since caused firestorm in the country and beyond. It had resulted to the withdrawal of Sheriff Tambadou from a team prosecuting the NIA 9 accused of conspiring to murder Ebrima Solo Sandeng. Calls for Baa Tambadou to resign have since intensified. HE Barrow’s decision is his prerogative and is to be respected. We select leaders to make decisions. Decisions we may and may not always agree with. That is normal in our culture and the democracy we are working on.

We must however, be aware that the decision to hold on to Baa Tambedou carries great risk for HE Barrow’s govt. Baa Tambedou will remain a liability and easy target for blackmail. And also the potential for dispute, pertaining to the sibling’s handling of SOLO SANDENG case, will remain a constant derailing element within our wider fraternity. And perhaps we may even see evolving factionalism in the current cabinet. These are consequences keeping him in the cabinet.

While Jammeh henchmen will continue forging ways to derail the new Gambia, we cannot allow ourselves to fall into self-fulfilling prophecies. We must set high professional and moral standards for ourselves. We owe to our people and the fallen heroes -who laid down their lives for us, perpetual integrity and commitment to what is just and what will bring the country forward.

  2. To be honest if were you Mr.Tambedou I will quit. This will tell the whole world that you are one of the best. This is the way forward and if all Africans were like you we have developed ages ago. I want to work with someone like you gentleman Tambadou. I love you with all my heart and soul. We need people like you in the Gambia. I wish u all the best in life.
