Gambians Mourn Kebba Dibba

Gambians are mourning the death of yet another media guru. Kebba Dibba, the Director of the TV programs at Gambia Radio and Television Services, lost the battle to brain tumour today. Dibba earlier had his tumour removed in Dakar, Senegal. Upon return, Kebba soon found himself fighting with the sickness.

Kebba Dibba, 51, was born in Sintet village in West Coast Region. Dibba’s journalism career started in 1992 at the Film Unit of Information Service. He left for Ghana to study journalism. Dibba returned home to work for GRTS. He started as a reporter and rose through the ranks until he became Director General. He was later demoted.

Dibba wasn’t satisfied with his higher diploma in journalism; he decided to obtain master’s degree in international journalism at the University of Cardiff in the United Kingdom.

Kebba Dibba also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the pro-government Daily Observer newspaper. Mr. Dibba, the second high ranking Gambian journalist to have answered to Allah’s call this year, will be remembered for his decades of public service. Veteran broadcaster George Christensen who founded Radio One FM had earlier died in Senegal.

Kairo News and Radio staff join friends and family to mourn the death of Kebba Dibba.

Whilst we mourn our fellow countryman, let us also take this opportunity, to reflect soberly on our own purpose on earth and prepare for our eventual departure from this life.
