News of the demise of the late Bubacarr Michael Baldeh fondly called Buba Baldeh hit Kairo News with shock and disbelief. The nephew of veteran fire brand Gambian politician, Sada Njie, broke the news early this morning. Kairo News is saddened to hear of Mr Baldeh’s death. We join the immediate family of the late Bubacarr Baldeh, the many extended family members, his close friends and dissident Gambian community in this sad moment.

The late Baldeh is a famous and towering figure in Gambian political history. He served as Minister of Youth and Sports in the deposed PPP government. He was also the Member of Parliament for Basse until the coup in 1994.

Buba Baldeh(1)The former Observer Media Company Director and Deputy ruling APRC deputy Mobiliser had been exiled in Senegal since 2006. He had continued his activism and political opposition to Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh. He regularly frequented Senegalese radio and television stations to expose the dictatorship and oppression in the Gambia. Mr Baldeh was simply a very committed politician of likeable personality. His love for political fan-fare made him a recognisable personality in the Gambian political landscape.

The leader of the United Democratic party was shocked to hear about Baldeh’s death. “I am in shock. Buba Baldeh was a formidable politician. His presence in Dakar means the Senegalese public are in no doubt aware of the state of affairs in the Gambia. I pray that his children live longer and celebrate the life of a worthy son of the Gambia. Buba Baldeh was always personate, energetic and determined. And it was that determination which made him fell out with the APRC regime. He will surely be missed. May Allah grant him Janatul-firdaus. His passing in the holy Month of Ramadan is a blessing. I am in solidarity with the Baldeh family of Mansajang Kunda,” Lawyer Ousainou Darboe told Kairo News.

Kairo News is yet to confirm the full details of the circumstances surrounding Buba Baldeh’s passing. However, preliminary information we have so far received associated the death to natural causes. We will write an extensive report on the late celebrated politician in the coming days. May his soul rest in peace. Ameen.

He was my boss too – a very kind, gentle, and friendly individual. I can still see him coming to work with enthusiasm to share a word of wisdom, a joke, or something to do for the betterment of his nation that everyone at the Ministry of Health then from Aunty Louise Njie (rip), permanent secretary Mr. Ebrima Manneh all the way down – will come to acknowledge. His presence was felt for he brought in friendship and excitement in his immediate environs. We lost greatness today in a human friend who had done a lot for the Gambia and more so for the youth. It was just a little over a year ago when I talked to him when he was preparing Dr. Sedat Jobe to attend the Raleigh Conference. I am very saddened by news of his demise and pray that Allah (SWT) grant him eternal peace.
