The Imam Ratib of Detroit Islamic Center has expressed outrage against exposing a woman’s nudity for any reason. Imam Momodou Ceesay said such a crime invites Allah’s severe punishment.
The anchor of Lokung Islam Kacha on Kairo Radio was reacting to complaints by women against undressing a Gambian woman [name withheld for cultural, religious and moral reasons] on social media by her former husband.
“This is the height of disrespecting a woman, Allah’s dignified creation whose private parts must not be exposed to the public,” Imam Ceesay said. “God talks a lot about the importance of a woman’s dressing; this shows the respect, honour and dignity He bestows on a woman’s body. Allah respects woman’s body and makes her so important for a man.”
Imam Ceesay said a man who exposes his divorced wife’s nudity has violated the marital vows. “It’s stated in Suratul Maida that married couple should honour their marital contract. This is why newly married couple is advised to respect each other’s family, companions and friends. It’s in this regard that a sermon is recited in a marriage ceremony warning human beings to be fearful of Allah who created all of them from one soul so they can multiply. But they must not break relationships if they don’t want to incurr Allah’s wrath. Marriage is all about bonding relationships.”
The venerable Imam said the “act of undressing an estranged wife in public is unheard of in history; it’s not mentioned in any holy book of Allah. Such an act – haram [prohibitted], disgusting and shameful – attracts Allah’s anger and wrath. Before Allah gave Adam and Awa the sense to cover themselves, He covered them with Nur [light] when they were removed them from Paradise. God swears in the Quran that He respects and honours a human being, which is why whoever displays a person’s private parts in public, will surely be punished by Allah,” the learned Muslim cleric said, quoting Prophet Muhammad’s saying that two things – a person’s mouth and private parts – will take him/her to hell. Whatever passes through them must be pure.
Imam Ceesay said Prophet enjoined Muslims to protect the private parts of even a dead body. “Allah’s Messenger said it’s strictly forbidden for any human being to talk about their spouse’s sex life. Prophet Muhammad said a person who exposes his wife’s privacy will get the worst punishment in the Hereafter.” Ceesay said undressing a divorced wife in public means disrespecting and shaming her entire family.
Detroit Imam said only shameless people can do such a despicable act. “Prophet Muhammad said shame is half of a person’s belief. This means anyone who lacks shame can do anything without worries,” Imam Ceesay said, exhorting Muslims to shame and condemn the act. “Prophet likened men who exposed their wives’ privacy to Satan that have sex in public. Clearly, Allah created a woman as a man’s farm so he enjoys himself so both of them gain Allah’s blessings, dignity and honour. It is in this regard that Allah wants a woman’s dignity to be preserved. Even in divorce a woman’s dignity, respect and dignity must not be compromised. It’s never been sanctioned by Allah for anyone to expose a divorced wife’s nudity. That is unacceptable.”
Imam Ceesay advised those in possession of the nude pictures to delete them and desist from sharing them. “What we should all do is to drum up support for the victim by condemning and shaming the man who posted the nude pictures. All those who keep the pictures in their Facebook should delete it completely if they don’t want Allah to make them accountable on the Day of Judgement.”
The venerable Imam echoed Prophet Muhammad’s saying that “those who marry their daughters to shameless men have thrown away their precious wealth.” Imam Ceesay appealed to people to support the woman to overcome the troubles. “The society needs to join in their condemnation if the victim’s former husband refuses to seek forgiveness. We must not keep quiet over this very serious issue.”
Imam Ceesay’s full audio is being relayed on Kairo Radio today.
Ends
Imam you have said it all. This is disgusting, shameful and un-gambian.
May Allah bless you Imam Ceesay! Your programs wash our souls.
I understand this stupid and shameless man’s so-called lawyer is defending him. I wonder where our Gambian morality has gone to. This is not who we are. We will not forgive anyone who brings disrespect to our noble community.
The girl is punished for nothing! What is her family waiting for? Take him down in courts. I have not seen anything as humiliating as this. O Lord! Help us.
Imam Ratib, you are my real star. You don’t mince the truth. What about an online radio that pulled down a program that criticized this filthy and greedy man? I am confident they too will have their share of Allah’s punishment.
Is the man already GUILTY – Bakary Jabang?
Every accused MUST have a lawyer – a lawyer who will FIGHT his case with tenacity. Only in Witch-Hunting Countries can you deny an accused a lawyer (infact, a huge tax fraud trial was stopped last month in UK because the accused could not afford a lawyer. The accused walked out of court free men).
In UK, no criminal defendant can be convicted without a lawyer to represent him (unless like Halifa he chose to represent himself!).
Secondly, this man is like everyone else, “innocent until proven guilty”.
Thirdly, if the photos/videos were taken with the wife’s consent, the man is NOT guilty in the eyes of the law – especially in “God-Blessed” America where the USA Government earns HUGE taxes from pornography and semi-pornographic Hollywood. America’s INTERNET TRAFFIC is 95% PORN!!!! God-Bless America, I say!
But, of course, the Imam is right – as far as religion and The Gambia’s cultural norms are concerned – My Fulani daughter would not leave our house in London without her hijab and trousers and she is only ten! (PLEASE, it is her choice, not mine!!)
The new madness of sending sex messages can come to haunt you. Remember, you can become anything 10 years down the line.
It is the height of foolishness to reveal the sacrosanct and honourable occurrences in a marital relationship. For a man to resort to fighting his ex-wife with their private nude photos is not not only sinful, but a path to the man’s utter destruction.
Even in war zone Ivory Coast and Liberia, the biggest weapon women have is to threaten rebels and government fighters of exposing their nakedness in a public place en-mass if they don’t stop killing.
How then can any sane man reveal his ex-wife nudity to the public?
Any man who even sits and watch nudity is on a path to failure in life. Although the body of women, have form part of our modernity and new beauty, no man or woman should reveal the intimate moments between existing or felled relationships. It is hateful in the sight of God and decent human beings.
I may be coming into this saga very late, that is because sex-gate sagas are serious trivial personal matters. However, since I am a husband, a brother to 4 sisters same mother and father with 3, same father with 1, also a father to two daughters, it is imperative, we men occasionally express our opinion on social matters affecting our community, not just politics.
Our sisters must never attempt to express love by unduly attempting to get the attention of a man. The new madness of sending sex messages can come to haunt you when you least expect it. As human beings we are a very complex, understand that, love is not a permanent state of affairs, hence, our best friends/lover can always turn to hate us more than our worst enemies.
Islam recommends that, we be moderate in all our affairs, even in marital relationships. There are dos and don’ts.
In the technology age, don’t send a message with photos of private parts of your body to any man. Polygamy is part and parcel of our culture. Your man can later in life marry someone else, he can be besotted and fall madly in love. That new lover may be more technologically aware than your man. All text message with nude photos or videos can be spread around.
Safeguard your honour and integrity. Falling in love should not make you irrational, always expect the worst from a modern man/woman. Your body should not form part of attracting someone 6000 miles away. I may sound old fashion, but the sanctity of a woman body cannot be over emphasise.

It is unfortunate that so many people copy Western behaviours that are associated with “Modernity and civilization”, without reflecting on the risks to themselves and their impact on society…
Husbands and.wives can express their love for each other, in any way they wish,as long.as it is within the confines of their own homes, especially if it involves sexual acts…
However, to record yourselves is not just sheer foolishness, but it is to leave oneself.open.to all.sorts of eventualities..And often, these images do come back to haunt you when you least expected them.or at a time when.they can have disastrous effects for you…
I hope people have.learnt from this incident..The man.may think he’s getting at the woman, but his reputation is now in tatters…Most people’s sympathies lie.with.the.woman..
i cannot in any way understand why this in the first place, if you belief in Allah and the last day this is not the act you will even think of. like our great iman has said Allah has placed a great respect in marriage, unifying families and friends not only for worldly ties but for eternity. the holy prophet s.a.w.has love his daughters so much. their dignity and respect is an utmost priority in ISLAM thus, who ever disrespect a woman’s privacy to this extend deserves not only Allah’s wrath in the next world but in this world as well. i am confident that the said person who did this will not want his own body be shown like this in social media but guess what. ALLah’s wrath is on its way to him, in no time soon we will see and come to say it here.
As i write this note i shed tears and pray for my sister in Islam that Allah be with her and protect against satan. i pray for her that ALLAH’S HELP IS ON ITS WAY MUCH CLOSE THAN WE CAN EXPECT. SOONER OR LATER THIS WILL BE A HISTORY Allah does not joke.
To the family please! please, you cannot take the fight of Allah, that burden is too great for anyone. let there be no court, no settlement, no shedding tears anymore. this will be taken care of by ALLAH alone.
Halake, you are still continuing your information about the UK. No accused will walk scot free out of a uk court just because he has no lawyer. In criminal cases, he/ she would have been provided a lawyer and the expense of the taxpayer if he cannot afford one. Courts will ensure that his/ her right to fair trial is guaranteed first, and includes the right to legal representation. You are talking bonkers.
Thanks
Halake i really want to know if this woman was your sister or aunt you will say what you say. please have respect for the poor woman and put your sister or aunt in her position.

Barrister salary figure ‘misleading’
The Court of Appeal is hearing a legal challenge against a judge’s decision to halt a serious fraud trial after the defendants said legal aid cuts meant they could not find barristers to represent them.
The Financial Conduct Authority, which is prosecuting, is seeking to overturn the ruling by Judge Anthony Leonard.
Legal aid fees in England and Wales have been cut by up to 30%.
This has seen many barristers refusing to take on long or complex cases.
Leading judges Sir Brian Leveson, Lord Justice Davis and Lord Justice Treacy are being urged to overturn the decision taken by Judge Leonard to halt the case.
Judge Leonard had heard the prime minister’s brother, Alexander Cameron QC, successfully argue that the case should be halted because five of the eight defendants in the case could not find barristers of “sufficient competence”.
The trial, involving the alleged mis-selling of land by Plott UK Ltd, European Property Investments Ltd and Stirling Alexander Ltd between 2008 and 2011, is a so-called Very High Cost Case (VHCC).
Fees for such long and complex cases have been cut as part of Ministry of Justice plans to trim its £2bn-a-year legal aid bill.
‘Violation’
Barristers have since been refusing to take on the most complex cases, which run up high costs due to the amount of preparation and court time they involve.
In their search for suitable representation, the defence team contacted 70 chambers. Only one barrister put himself forward, but later withdrew his services.
Judge Leonard said he had no reason to think the defendants would be able to find suitably qualified barristers and it would be a “violation” of the legal process to allow the prosecution to proceed.
But the FCA told the appeal hearing that Judge Leonard’s decision had been “unreasonable” and should be reversed.

The Ministry of Justice says suitably qualified lawyers are available to hear cases
Attempting to overturn Judge Leonard’s order, Sean Larkin QC, for the FCA, told the Court of Appeal it had the power to confirm, reverse or vary the decision to stay the proceedings.

Very High Cost Cases (VHCCs) require specialist lawyers and legal aid for the defendants
As the name implies, VHCCs are the most complex and lengthy of all criminal casework
VHCCs include fraud, drug-trafficking and terrorism. The evidence can be difficult for a jury to understand and that’s why the legal profession and judiciary want the most senior and experienced barristers in court
Legal aid row: Who is going to blink?
He said: “The judge erred in principle and came to an unreasonable decision. We want you simply to reverse the stay and that will have the effect of this matter going back before the judge at some time in the future for him to consider how best to progress the case.”
He argued that the public interest required a lesser remedy – an adjournment – in the case.
Sir Brian Leveson said it was not the court’s job to get involved in the dispute between the barristers and the government.
He said: “We are simply concerned in this case with whether the judge was entitled to reach this conclusion at this time on the evidence then before him.”
The stand-off over fees could affect other fraud trials due to take place. The FCA has said four defendants in a trial scheduled for September are currently unrepresented, and the Crown Prosecution Service has three fraud-related cases in which there are also no defence barristers.
Halake, name me the court and/the defendant. With that information, somebody can verify it. Please add the year it happened as that would make it even easier to verify.
You need to stop talking bonkers about the UK
PUT UR MONEY WHERE UR MOUTH IS, LAFIA!!! BELOW is the line Argument so far. It is clear that you are NOT prepared back-up your attack on Halake by pledging £100 to KAIRONEWS IF YOU ARE PROVED WRONG. I have PROMISED to pay half of that money, £50, to KairoNews on your behalf IF I PROVE YOU WRONG.
Now, you CHICKEN out by refusing to pledge £100 (of which I will pay half for you) IF you are WRONG. Having CHICKENED out, you revert to abuse (“bonkers”) – which as I know is the tactic that many people revert to when they lose the argument.
If I the Bantaba does NOT hear from you in the next 24 hours, I will post the PROVE here and pay £50 at once to KAIRONEWS – I hope you too will then pay £50 to KAIRONEWS.
BAX, is that a fair position for Halake to take? (please read the debate below before you answer!)

That is more than fair,my in law…
I don’t take on childish challenges. I am a very serious man. Call me whatever. I am interested in facts, not name calling Halake. Name the court and the defendant. Will you ??
Of course if there is a serious threat to defendant’s right to fair trial, a UK court will not hesitate to halt trial in the public interest. That doesn’t mean going scot free, unless the crown decided not to prosecute and they that power, but for the right gurantees to a fair trial to be in place first.
Lafia, you say: “I don’t take on childish challenges. I am a very serious man … I am interested in facts”.
With respect, there was nothing “serious” or “factual” about your claim that “Halake is peddling misinformation”.
You know that “the facts” are against you and that is why you have CHICKENED out of the challenge. I will now proceed to make my £50 donation to KAIRONEWS and leave to you waffle on at the Bantaba. Hopefully, you have learnt from this and you will check your “facts” first before you call anyone a liar.
Good Day.
$100 dollars in your account already KAIRONEWS! Chicken Lafia needs to pay up!!
Keep up the good work KairoNews Team.
Kairo News acknowledged the receipt of your donation of $100 dollars. It’s really appreciated. We thank you so much for the generous contribution.
Well done my in law…Leave the drowning man to clutch at imaginary straws….He’s always doing that anyway…
