Mambury Njie has once resurfaced in The Gambia’s Cabinet line up. Mr. Njie – a trained economist – was appointed the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, replacing Amadou Sanneh who has been re-deployed to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Employment.
In a news release, President Adama Barrow’s office announced the appointment of Mambury Njie. After reshuffling his Cabinet, President Barrow used his constitutional powers to appoint a man who served in almost every senior government, including Permanent Secretary, Secretary General, Ambassador and Minister of Finance during Yahya Jammeh’s leadership.
Like many senior officials who worked in the ousted regime, Mambury Njie too tasted Dictator Jammeh’s bitter pills. He was arbitrarily arrested and detained for monthly before being slapped with trumph up economic charges. High Court later acquitted and discharged Mr. Njie. He was without a job until the Barrow administration re-appointed him as the Director of Gambia National Petroleum Corporation. Mambury Njie is so far the only Jammeh former minister appointed by President Barrow.
