Scores of Gambians Show Appreciation To Jaliba Kuyateh

Jaliba

Tune in to Kairo Radio all day today where organisers, fans, and lovers of kora music have shown their appreciation to the man who will be Crowned the King of Kora on Saturday, June 7th, 2014. The Kombo Sillah Association (KSA) is inviting Gambians and fans of the Great Jaliba Kuyateh to his coronation as the King of Kora. This will be made official in the city of Bristol in England. The KSA members said Bristol will split into two that day, as the city will witness the most spectacular performance by Jaliba. Many high dignitaries are billed to attend.

CROWNKairo News assembled the organisers of the Jaliba Kuyateh and the Kumareh band tour of U.K, The Gambia United Society, the Kombo Sillah Association members, Jaliba’s fans in Sweden, the U.k, U.S to take part in the conference call, expressing their delight in Jaliba being crown the King of Kora.

Kora_DSC_0355The head of the Gunjur-Malborough link, Dr Nick Morris who is nominated to crown Jaliba Kuyateh was also on the call, you can hear him and a whole lot of others on our radio today. Muhammed Lamin Sillah was the host, and Jaliba Kuyateh’s wife, Tuti Sanyang Kuyateh, introduced her husband. We have many voices on the radio today – males and female, young and old – who have all agreed that Jaliba deserves the Mighty Crown for his extraordinary works and efforts to shape millions of lives and help preserve Manding culture. It has been one of the biggest cultural revolutions in the world. Jaliba was so thrilled that he could not say much.

But is Jaliba not the one who climb the back of a truck and sang jammeh’s praises from Kanifing to statehouse. If Gambians have issues with Thione Seck praise-singing Jammeh, we should have issues with this man too. Otherwise, we will be proving ourselves to be a bunch of grumpy hypocrites.

    Just my thoughts

    • kebbakotobaa na jusoo, esabari manju. gambia is not a free country morro. there are always ways to deal with an evil ruler. oh have you donated towards the sewruba project yet…morro is nice ooooo (jking). gdday

  2. bravo kouyate, one of the prides of manden music

  3. Hassan Camara

A great singer and one of the best. He is humble and down to earth. He is under big pressure in Gambia. Let us embrace him abroad, may be he can exile himself.

  4. Lafia Touray la Manju

Karamo, Jaliba is praising a guy who opening manifested disdain for the Mandingo people. I am saddened by that as a proud mandinka.

    • i know but manden and its peoples are much greater than yaya jammeh. He is a bitter man. he will disappear some day and the people he hates will still be standing. The one with the evil mind will be the looser ALLAH.

  5. A lovely man. Bristol people put the icing on the cake.

  6. Fatou Darboe Jula

Lafia, Jaliba is seriously saving himself. Jammeh despised him more than anything. Jaliba sometimes do those things to avoid fatality. There are two people Yahya Jammeh hates with passion, the first is Lawyer Darboe and the second is Jaliba Kuyateh. If he can kill these two, he would have done it long time. Lawyer Darboe has a some political shield, whilst Jaliba has none. So he just have to play along sometimes. He hates both men primarily because of their ethnicity and their social standing…period.

Thank you Jula musso Fatou Darboe. I am so glad that mandinkas are waking up to the very existential poses to us in The Gambia but equally I sad that a lot of our people are still gullible while few others like that stupid chief in jarra soma are complicit in the persecution of their fellow mandinkas to maintain positions.

    Jula musso Nsabarri taleh now.

Thank you Jula musso Fatou Darboe. I am so glad that mandinkas are waking up to the very existential threat poses to us in The Gambia but equally I sad that a lot of our people are still gullible while few others like that stupid chief in jarra soma are complicit in the persecution of their fellow mandinkas to maintain positions.

    Jula musso Nsabarri taleh now.

  9. Lafia Touray la Manju

Karamo, you Fatou Darboe Jula have made my day today. So may be I will donate to the sewruba project now. But the Manding Griots have to listen to the Batuu faas too and take their rightful position in defending Mandingo pride and sovereignty as our fathers did against Sumanguru Conteh in Mali.

    Thanks

  10. We thank Allah for endowing us with such a Great Talented man. Hats off to King Jaliba. We will be always proud of you.

  11. What is good and proper for Jaliba, shou’d be for every one. He is part of the bandwagon just like Thione Seck, Titi, Ida Samba, Agiousa and youssou ndour (thou never heard him cut a song or praise singing King Jammeh).

  12. Lafia Touray la Manju

Seedy Jarju, I agree with you entirely. I don’t accept this justification that Jaliba is praising singing jammeh because he is being bullied. Ofcourse a lot mandinkas are easy targets for jammeh’s bullying but is it not time stand up to his bullish behaviour just like our the mandinkas stood up to the invaders of the kaabu empire?? I definitely think so.

Mandinkas stand up for yourselves and refuse subjugation and insults that is being directed at us. We have the biggest responsibility of ending jammeh’s rule because most of his support come from the mandinkas, and yet he called us unpatriotic; banku ding kurungolu.

    • manju just for brother please listen to these songs on youtube. will surely put a smile on your face…. Fode baro – trinsaba. Babadjan kaba – sini lon. Mama Diabate – mamako. enjoy morro.

  13. Kudos to Jaliba Kuyateh for spreading our culture, as well as, vital information (by music/entertainment), through the Gambian Mandinka dialect….He deserves this reward….

And a big “thank you” and “well done” to the organisers/organisations for coming up with this award…Tap yourselves on the back…

I am amazed, almost embarrassed, by the level of ignorance and tribalism displayed here…

I hope the leadership of the struggle and the opposition, take note of these sentiments in order to understand that The Gambia is not immune from the tribal madness that we see around us in Africa..

Could anyone explain what “Mandinka Sovereignty” is and how it should be exercised within the context of a modern Gambian state..?

  14. Lafia Touray la Manju

I did not use the word sovereignty in a political context my friend. There is state sovereignty and individual sovereignty. It means to own ones self and pocess dignity rather than being subjugated.

Guy, I will say it millions times. Yaya jammeh openly declare threats against the Mandingos in The Gambia. That means Mandingo now have a reason to distant themselves from him. Anybody who does not want this to be said loud and clear in the open is himself a mandinkaphobics.

“8. (SBU) NGO contacts from the regional peace-building organization noted that Jammeh has on occasion made anti-Mandinka comments, citing in particular a 2006 television appearance in which he explained, using maps of th sub-region, how the Mandinkas were not historically a true tribe of The Gambia since they came from elsewhere in West Africa. The contacts blamed him for “sowing the seeds of discord,” and also mentioned a tendency for Jammeh to demonize the Mandinkas, who also make up a significant number of supporters of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP). They noted that when officials are fired from the higher levels of the government, security forces, and parastatals, they are often replaces by Jolas, and alleged that the latest batch of Gambian army recruits were mostly Jolas –some possibly from Senegal.

9.(SBU) Sources noted that for now, mainly lighthearted stereotypes persist among the various ethnic tribes at the grassroots level, but Jammeh’s apparent political strategy of appointing Jolas and other non-Mandinkas to prominent roles could “evolve” or “explode,” given time. Contacts pointed out that most of the suspects in the March 2006 aborted coup plot and the majority of people held in prolonged detention are Mandinkas, while few, if any, are Jolas.”-

    I love Ndey Tapha Sossesh to bits. See below her article on Jammeh’s anti- mandinka statement. She is right in blaming some mandinkas for their complicity. Some say this is just out of fear while others say it is opportunism but when did mandinkas become cowards or Allah mutaa balolu??;

WHAT IS NEW ABOUT YAYA JAMMEH’S ANTI MANDINKA AND ANTI WESTERN STATEMENTS?
WHAT IS NEW ABOUT YAYA JAMMEH’S ANTI MANDINKA AND ANTI WESTERN STATEMENTS?

    Dear Editor,

Reference is made to the article entitled “SG Momodou Sabally read a statement issued by The Gambia Government branding the UDP as a Mandingka group, calls the US and UK as racist nations; Says the Mandingka Group will never rule The Gambia; says the West is funding online papers and the opposition to overthrow his regime”. I have read the article and listened to your statement. As I listened to your programme the question that went through my mind was “what’s new?” The response is “nothing”. These same sentiments have been part of Jammeh’s rhetoric since he took over in 1994. The only difference is the audience. Before GRTS went satellite the audience was small and localized, today the audience is global and wider.

Before going further, let me clarify that I am not Mandinka and I generally do not get involved in tribal, ethnic debates as I believe that it is a non-issue. I grew up in two households where we had to share space with the wards entrusted to my Grandmother, Mother and Aunt’s care from multi-ethnic (Mulatto, Fula, Mandinka, Wollof, Manjago, Serere, Jola, Serahule and Aku) and multi-religious backgrounds. We grew up respecting each other for who they were and not what they are. Thus ethnocenticism, religious intolerance and any discrimination against a human being based on race, ethnicity, gender, age, socio-economic status or sexual orientation do not exist in my life.

I have found the overt discrimination that Yaya Jammeh has displayed against the Mandinkas and people from the West to be totally abhorrent. Since coming into power in 1994, Jammeh has chosen to redefine patriotism and divide Gambians through ethnic, religious and geo-political characteristics. And, Gambians as a people have largely allowed him to do so. Jammeh’s ethnocentric statements against Mandinkas and anti Western statements have dominated his unofficial and official pronouncements and have been accepted and tolerated by the very people that he was attacking and the generality of the Gambian public.

When Jammeh first made the statement that “a Mandinka will never lead this country again”, who was laughing, clapping and cheering? Demba Sanyang former head of household for the ousted President (today Head Chief of Kombo North, and Paramount Chief of TheGambia), Dembo Santang Bojang, former chief of Brikama and Nyimasata Sanneh Bojang former Member of Parliament and Minister in both regimes. This is just to name some of the few who were busy settling scores. They trailed behind him from community to community sitting in various platforms and fora where he abused, castigated, ridiculed and humiliated Mandinkas. Some of this was done in Mandinka strongholds in the presence of Mandinka elders and leaders and there was no disapproval of his statements. Was it not the Mandinkas? I will single out a few examples.

Everyone has the right to belong to a party of their choice. However, the fact that since 1994, Mandinkas could align themselves enthusiastically to a leadership and party that, is openly hostile to them, is something that I have not been able to comprehend. From Niumi to Baddibu, Janjanbureh to Kiang, the Kombos-Sukuta, Gunjur to Brikama, a huge Mandinka following went behind the man who would heap insults on them. Bakau was the last of the largely Mandinka settlements to give in. It was no longer politically correct to be Mandinka and many persons who had claimed to be Mandinka for years were now Jola. Some Dibba’s even became Gibba and started speaking Jola. I have never seen such a rapid transformation in my life. Some Mandinka Jammeh’s now became Jola Jammeh’s. One of them a descendent of the late Mama Tamba Jammeh of Illiassa even went to the extent of claiming on television that Yaya Jammeh is the descendent of one of the Jammeh clan – a lost ancestor whose grandson had now come to rule The Gambia. This was how far Gambian Mandinkas were willing to go to accept Yaya Jammeh.

To me, the biggest sell out is former President Jawara and family. A Mandinka himself, President Jawara accepted the olive branch from the man who did not only topple him, sending for him into exile for over a decade, during which period he openly displayed hostility to him and his people. In the presence of Jawara, Jammeh would make anti-Mandinka statements and reiterate that a Mandinka will never rule the country anymore. What message does President Jawara send to the people by sitting there and accepting such insults?

My final point on the Mandinka is that they have allowed themselves to be marginalized in a country where they are the majority tribe. Instead of coming together as a people to address the negativity that is being forced against them, they have thrown their weight against a man who has systematically diminished them as an ethnic group. The great and brave Mandinka warriors of the past must be cringing in their graves.

Sabally’s insults and claims against the British and the Americans is nothing new. As an observer of the political scene, I was totally appalled at the humiliation that the ambassadors and embassy personnel had to endure anytime that there was an occasion. Jammeh always took joy in spelling out different meanings for the West, sometimes even calling them thieves. I never could really understand why the different missions never took action, even when he declared certain representatives “persona non grata”.

Sabally can rant, rave, call names and he still cannot say and do more than Njogu Bah and others before him have said and done. Today, Njogu Bah is a guest at Jammeh’s famous five-star hotel – Mile Two Central Prisons, sharing the same space with people he declared unpatriotic and disloyal.

Have Gambian Mandinkas reached the stage where they say “enough is enough”? What is certain is that if Gambian Mandinkas who make up at least 36% (2003 Census Figures) of the Gambian population were anti Jammeh and anti-APRC, and voted on tribal lines, Jammeh would never have won an election, instead they would have voted for Ousainou Darboe, the UDP leader who happens to be Mandinka.

That, the Gambia Government labels UDP as a Mandinka party, is not only foolish and mischievous but untrue and designed to polarize society. Most of the UDP executive members that I know are non-Mandinka. What Jammeh, like most dictators, wants is to render The Gambia ungovernable and unstable after him.

The implications of such statements are far reaching and can affect the social fabric of The Gambia for generations to come. We have seen ethnic and tribal conflicts in many countries in the region in particular Rwanda.

To avert such tensions, and to avoid a situation where the country degenerates into ethnic conflict, I encourage the UDP and other political parties, to nip this trend in the bud and look into all possible actions, including legal, for incitation of hatred, hate speech etc to take against Momodou sabally and the Government of The Gambia.

All I ask of mandinkas in The Gambia is to avoid jammeh totally; don’t support him, don’t vote for him, don’t help him comit crime against anybody; don’t even pronounce his name. Call him Lang Banjul.

    Thanks

  18. Fatou Darboe Jula

Lafia, you are killing me with laughter. Call him Lang Banjul!! wow brother, you are creative. This shows you have passion for the Gambia. On the case of Jaliba and some young singers, they have dramatically reduce their association to Jammeh. In fact, Jammeh brought in the Sajo band to neutralise and finish Jaliba, but they couldn’t. Jaliba sang only one song for Jammeh, and since then their relationship is that of cat and mouse. I agree with you, if Jammeh give you a cold shoulder, totally avoid his circle.

  19. Janko Camara

Truth is always a bitter pill to swallow. What Ms. Sosseh has stated here about the condescending Mandinka comportment is indeed true, although very sickening to say the least. I am Manding and I know how it feels.

    • MANY THANKS CAMARA but we all know certain things are easier to imagine but very complex to put in practise.

The gambia belongs to all not just mandinkas so why should mandinkas take on jammeh alone??? this is africa we are talking about not UK, EUROPE etc etc. why did ms Sosseh ran away from her beloved country?

Jammeh winning elections does not mean the majority are behind him. Lets remember jammeh controls everything in the gambia.

those stupid mandinkas blindly supporting jammeh will have their day just like baba jobe et al.

How about the condescending wollof comportment?? just because mandinkas are the majority in the gambia does not mean we should start a fight.

Let ms Sosseh go back to the gambia and start enlightening those blind mandinkas and Allah will pay her for the gambia belongs to all.

      thanks

Karamo, there is no doubt that Gambia belongs to all the tribes there but it is the mandinka tribe that is being specifically targeted and singled out for all sorts of insults and threats by jammeh, not to mention his covert manoeuvrings to disadvantage the mandinka people in The Gambia. Have we not seen and read it all?? And yet you have influential mandinkas who aid and abet it all. This is the main gist of Ndey tapha’s article. She is not happy about the complicity of influencial mandinkas in it all. I am particularly mad about it.

I have information that he once cursed the mother of Ebrima Ceesay of Baddibu Kerewan, a former minister, and Ceesay throw back his words to him and walked off. The late Alhagi Karamo fatty of Badibbu Salikene (lambaye Morri bolong) told Lang Banjul on his face that he may have a gun but he is not braver than he Alhagi Karamo fatty and his people will not vote or support him. Why can’t any all mandinkas do the same and stop this madness from continuing??

Ofcourse nobody should violence against him because solves no problem. That doesn’t mean mandinkas can’t stand their ground in defense of their dignity rather than succumbing to the subjugation and insults of jammeh. This is what pains me most.

    Thanks

The once prosperous Badibbu Business community at the Albert Market is now finished; Alhagi Jawara, Salifu Jaiteh Kaba, kutubo Dibba Waalimang, Afang Yaya Marong; all these people are know forced to lay low in The Gambia. I heard Salifu moved his business to Bissau. One Lamin Tunkara of Badibbu Kinteh is reported missing after already confirmed arrested for alleged link to those Ghanaians intercepted in gambian waters.

This is a very serious stuff Mandingolu. We must not continue to behave like a bunch of depressed people. Do not follow, support, vote or help Lang Banjul in anyway or form. Don’t even pronounce his real name.

    Thanks

  22. “Dibbas” becoming “Gibbas” and start speaking Jola…?”

Who inspired them, the Holy Ghost. ..?

Mandinkas being marginalised and yet several prominent Mandinkas named as holders of influential positions “in” and “around” the executive….I will take such “marginalisation” anytime, any day…

Someone calling Yaya Jammeh a.descendant of the legendary Mama Tamba Jammeh and wanting to associate with him is NOT new in Gambian politics…It’s called “sycophancy” and we have seen a lot of it in the past…

Only difference is that the one at the held is unable to “handle” it…

Didn’t Jawara have his sycophants, some.in top central/local government positions…?

This quote below sums up the attitude of the Jammeh regime and puts the whole “anti – Mandinka” nonsense in its proper context…

Quote…” That the Gambia government labels the UDP as a Mandinka party, is not only foolish and mischievous, but untrue and designed to polarize society…”

Though wrong and baseless, the APRC government’s anti – Mandinka rhetoric are directed at the UDP (as its main challenger), rather than the entirety of the Mandinka ethnic group….Anybody who thinks that Jammeh will call APRC Mandinkas as “bankuding kurungo’lu” is not being honest…

Jammeh has hailed Gambian women, the majority of whom.are Mandinkas,as hard working and engines of his development and heaped them with praises and appreciation…

How does that fit in with your descriptions of Jammeh’s sheer hatred of the Mandinkas as an ethnic group…?

What is factual.and evident is that Yaya Jammeh is.hostile to anyone who oppose his style of leadership, regardless of tribe, sex, religion or profession. ..

    He has called journalists,the “illegitimate sons of Africa”;

    He has threatened human rights defenders and potential demonstrators with death;

    He has threatened communities that do not vote for him with “No development”;

    He has insulted people of.all tribes and.colours, including his own tribe;

Didn’t he recently call Mr Modou Joof a.”Fool” on National TV..? Is Modou Joof a Mandinka…?

Indeed, it would appear that there is a disproportionate representation of Jolas, or Jola sounding surnames in top positions in government, but does this equals “discrimination” against Mandinkas. .?

I would.like to be shown how, since there are other groups which are also affected by this unfair representation. …

I think Jammeh has been pursuing a “silent” policy of “positive discrimination” in favour of his Jola ethnic group, based on his erroneous views that they were marginalised during the PPP era…

“Positive discrimination” is not applicable in The Gambia because almost everyone is disadvantaged….That is why Jammeh’s policy is.more of “favouritism” (which is wrong) than discrimination as is being claimed here…

To avert tension, people like Ndey Tapha and many others must refuse to reduce Gambia’s current political problems and Jammeh’s stupid, immature nature and silly rants into tribe or give it tribal dimensions…That would be playing into Jammeh’s hands…

Jammeh.must be seen.as a.problem for ALL civilised people, regardless of origin, colour, religion or sex because he is a callous BRUTE in human form…

  23. Lafia Touray la Manju

Baba Kajali Jobe won the whole of LRR region for jammeh in 2001. He ended in Mile 2 prison. Jammeh later branded the place “Baba Jobe la Hotelo”.

If jammeh had lost the LRR in 2001 as he did in 1996, it would not have been possible for him to win the presidency statistically. In that sense, we can say mandingolu la Baba jobe won jammeh the presidency in 2001.

    Thanks

“4. (SBU) The GOTG traditionally has been dominated by Mandinkas, particularly during the Jawara regime, which began when The Gambia gained independence in 1965 and ended in 1994. Jawara, a Mandinka, was careful in composing his cabinet and ensuring both ethnic groups and geographic regions were fairly represented, according to a source who worked in his administration. Since Jammeh came to power in 1994, Mandinkas gradually have been edged out of key roles in the government and security forces, and are no longer represented proportionally in the higher echelons of the GOTG. There are now very few Mandinkas in key central government roles and institutions. Of the 18 Cabinet positions only three are currently filled by Mandinkas. Six positions are filled by Jolas (including the president), six by Wolofs, and one each by a Fula, Creole, and mixed-ethnicity member. However, National Assembly Members (parliamentarians) representing the 48 constituencies throughout the country tend to come from the majority ethnic group in each voting district. Of the five regions in The Gambia, the Western Region is predominantly Mandinka and Jola; the Lower River Region is predominantly Mandinka; the Central River Region is a mixture of Wolof, Fula, and Mandinka tribes in relatively equal proportions; the Upper River Region is made up of Mandinka, Fula, and Serahuli tribes; and the North Bank Region is largely Mandinka.”

Why is he not calling the other tribe people in the UDP unpatriotic?? Why mandinkas only?? As a matter of fact, it was the statement that sabally read out which referred to UDP as a mandinka party. Jammeh did not mention UDP even a single time during his address at statehouse. He referred to mandinkas in general, and that was not the first time he’s done it. We have heard and seen it all and the proofs is all over the place.

During his meeting with the Mandinka Society of Banjul at statement, jammeh did not mense his words disapproval and disdain for the Mandingo people. And yet we have these depressed looking mandinka Allah Mutaa Balolu across the table saying all sorts of things in praise of jammeh. Isn’t that the sort of thing my adorable lady Ndey tapha Sossesh mu Mustapha Sosseh of blessed memory was talking. If you can’t throw back his words at him, why don’t you shut up? I am glad that you understand my frustration about the gullibility of certain influencial mandinkas in The Gambia.

I have nothing against Jaliba. I like him so much that I can sing almost all of his songs apart from the ones composed for jammeh and his former wife, Tuti. But when I heard Jaliba saying about jammeh; “toonya kumo diyataa manso yee Yaya woo”, I was like whoops!! Jaliba needs to return to Mari Bantang because he was derailing. It is now comforting to know from you and he too is apprehensive of jammeh.

Youssou fought for POWER OF THE PEOPLE but harrassed contracted for entertaining Gambians. YOUSSOU IS NOT A PRAISE SINGER. ASK LAI NJOMBORR!

  33. Alimatou Sarr

Who listens to DUGA anymore? Is it not the same DUGA people who caused noise when they occupied our Embassy in America? Are the same people not wining and dining with Sheikh Omar Faye, our new Ambassador? So next time when you are talking seriously don’t mention DUGA, for they will not duga in our Embassy as long as their own kith and kin Faye is there. Chei aduna!

  34. Hail THE KING JAMMEH JILANKA AND ENJOY THE SPECIAL SONG FROM JALIBA KUYATEH!

  35. QUOTES EXTRACTED from Freedom Newspaper wrote Posted on Monday, September 18, 2006 (Archive on Friday, September 29, 2006) that; “Jaliba Kuyateh over the years had been a strong fan of the APRC with his famous song called “Jammeh Jilanka.” ….his best sold album featured Jobe, Kujabi, Yankuba Touray and President Jammeh himself. Most of the said people featured in the said popular album were either jailed or sacked at some point except President Jammeh who is still directing the country’s affairs. Jammeh’s day will soon come.

Jaliba Kuyateh was Baba Jobe’s close friend. The jailing of Jobe and Abdoulie Kujabi must have come as a big shock to him..

The Kora star is reported to have been isolated by the government following one of his releases in which he mentioned that the world is three days while paying tribute to the former deposed Gambian President Jawara. The said song which also featured incumbent President Jammeh according to sources also angered Jammeh as he repeatedly complained about it. “

  36. A lost cause! Thank you happy Suntou and Kairo radio team with the Jaliba promotion at Kairo radio! Lol.

  37. Gambia voice

Dawda, you very much miss the point here. Fans of Jaliba appreciate his songs, music however, they also do object to the songs about Pres Jammeh and his inner circle. What Gambians cannot afford to do is put Gambian artist in the same circle with foreign Senegalese artist. Gambian artist live and are experiencing the tyranny in place. Yahya Jammeh have been spending millions on both Senegalese and other foreign artist in the effort to marginalise Gambian artist especially Jaliba.
In fact, putting Jaliba in the same bracket as Yussour in a misunderstanding on the two situations. Gambian musicians are not even allow on GRTS if they don’t praise Jammeh. Even an interview will not be view if they fail to extend greetings to Jammeh. Jaliba for the past 6 years is not even granted access to Jammeh, unless that is Jammeh is desperate. What should Gambian artist do to survive in a difficult situation? A solution to this lies with proper networking of Gambian organisations. I work at GRTS and I know how difficult things are. Jaliba is even denied access to hiring certain instruments during big shows, whilst the Yousour Ndur is made available this things on the cheap in Gambia.
Jaliba is not allow to play certain big venues, hence he plays at private locations and pays heavily. Dictatorship affects the famous painfully likewise the poor. Jaliba and other singers in the Gambia don’t have the liberty like the Senegalese singers to freely sing songs of protest, they have to bury the words deep in songs for those with sound understanding. Dawda, please, let us stop temperamental prejudice. Your views are filled with such remarks.

  38. Day one JULY 22ND AT MCCARTHEY SQUARE HE WAS THERE TO PRODUCTION OF JAMMEH JILANKA!

    NO SACRED COW!

  39. Dawda, this is indeed a democratic platform where all is free to express their opinions. However, if this is your idea of freedom of speech, please yourself……

The people are listening. Keep coming brother and good day….

  40. When Gambian American Soceity Honour Bri Bri some years ago while a deputy Banjul mayor no one raise a finger at him or the organizers and now some are honouring Jaliba why the hate?

  41. When Gambian American Soceity Honour Bri Bri some years ago while a deputy Banjul mayor of APRC no one raised a finger at him or the organizers and now some are honouring Jaliba. Why the hate?

  42. Lafia Touray la Manju

Lamin Jeng, our views are legitimate and Jaliba needs to hear them. All Mandinkas love him to bits. Thus, your choice of word ‘hate’ is misdirected. You have misspoken, my friend.

    Thanks

  43. Lafia Touray la Manju

Lamin Jeng, if your respond was directed at Dawda, I would say ignore him as he is just taking the piss.

One thing must be made absolutely clear, this is not about one tribe vs the other ( God forbid that in our beloved country), it is about Yahya Jammeh’s profound hatred of the mandinkas and how he is now openly manifesting it, and we are refusing to go off topic as that will serve no purpose.

    Thanks

  44. When Jawara became president, his number one enemy gave him a wife. Modou Musa use to travel all over the country saying Sossah Bi Du Fi Don Dara. So Ndey Tafa should leave the Mandinka alone. Yahya did more ham to the Jolas than the Mandinkas.

  45. Thank you Jaliba for that nice production “Jammeh jilanka”!

  46. Yousouf dabo

Why i cannot see many of jalibas music like kasimou njie and so on
