Morocco, August 27, 2019 – When it comes to sprinting, Gambia will not be listed among top nations in Africa because of her poor performances at major international events. Gambiaโs performance at any major international events is always marred with fair results. The 2019 African Games could perhaps be the most successful sporting outing for the small West African Nation. A certain Gina Bass was the biggest name of all and raised the benchmark for sprinters in our countryโs history. At the African Games currently underway in Rabat, Bass gave Gambia her first silverware setting a new national record of 11:13. In 2015 at the African Games in Brazzaville Gina could not shine but four years on Bass came into the African Games as continental – beater in the 100m race. She did not disappoint, breaking her own national record in the 100m with a time of 11:13 taking second in the women 100m final. This achievement came with something even bigger, Gina is qualified to the 2019 World Championship in Doha next month and she will also earn her second Olympic appearance when the games serve off in Tokyo in 2020. With Ginaโs talent our country can be certain of a gold medal anytime soon.
