Letter to M. Sajo Jallow (in custody)
Dear Maodo!
Last night I had a dream. I was at a construction site with a beautiful baby in my arms. Men were working and there was a lot of buzz: caterpillars, wheelbarrows, stones, shovels, you name it! All of a sudden I stumbled and fell into an excavator knocking my head against the steel with the baby in my arms. I cried for help, shouting, somebody help! Immediately a lady showed up. She must have been a site engineer. She had construction wear and a helmet with a file in one hand. She came rushing and helped us out to the edge of the machine on a pavement. My feet where dangling in the excavator with the baby in my arms again when i woke up from my sleep.
I have been taught certain interpretations of dreams.
Vegetables, fruits and water: Prosperity
Gold, silver and money : Wealth
Fish: You will have a baby
A hole in the ground, a gun(not fired), a pregnant woman: Betrayal
Fire means Poverty
Sweeping: Hard economic times are knocking.
A fired gun means a Shattered betrayal
A Chinese proverb states that it is easy to dodge a spear that comes in front of you but hard to keep harms away from an arrow shot from behind.
My Comrade, My Friend, My Husband, My Love, Father of My Children!
The clock struck 8:54 a.m Gambian time on Friday, September 2nd, 2016 when I called you on my way from saying goodbye to Koto who was traveling the next evening to Makkah for Hajj. The conversation lasted for 5 mins meaning the last time I spoke with you was at 9:01 a.m, Friday the 2nd of September, 2016. That was 11:01 a.m in Sweden. The next time I tried calling you (three hrs later) a voice told me: “The number you have dialed is switched off or outside coverage area, please try again later!” followed by the Wollof and Mandinka translations. That is soon two months ago. Everyday, I call you and send you text messages reading different du’ahs for you and letting you know how much I love and care for you: Laa xawla wa laa quwaati illaa billaah huwal aliiyul azeem! Hasbunallah wani’imal wakeel! Since the last time we spoke everyday, every hour I am thinking and wondering what you were given for breakfast, did you have lunch, was dinner served cold? I worry for your allergies, I worry for your health. When the thoughts are most painful and almost unbearable, I sit under the bathroom shower and I weep. I cry for all the times I made you sad, upset you, talked to you on a high note, ignored you, criticized you in our daily struggles as a political couple. Yet you have always forgiven me, loved me: truly, purely and unconditionally! Always wanted what is best for me, for our family, for our children! I remember the last conversation we had in Stockholm, the night before you left for the Gambia, Sunday August 21 st and I cry even more. You have always. always, always maintained that your life became complete when you found me. That I am the whole package: your best friend, your comrade, your wife, your love, mother of your children, the person you expect to always be by your side, come rain, thunder or hailstorm. Today, I feel I have failed in my duty as all of the above to protect you. That I would be the cause of your mishap breaks my heart. That by taking a political stance based on a clear conscience, my words and actions in public have made you vulnerable under circumstances I have no control over. Rest assured I am doing all I can in working for your release drawing much strength from the saying: Life’s mostly froth and bubble, Two things stand like stone, Kindness in another’s trouble, Courage in our own.
Comfort, hope and perseverance come from the fact that, It is Only ALLAH, SWT who can shield and protect us. Most heartening is the fact that HE Azza wa jal Never fails and Never disappoints!
For all of us who love and care for you, we who all have been troubled, shed tears and distressed by this ordeal, we all believe in ALLAH SWT. We Completely and Totally put our Trust in HIM, Tabaaraka wa Ta’aala. We surrender and leave your fate in HIS (SWT) Hands!
To be continued………
