As indicated in this reaction to an article on Kairo News, the writer Yerro Ba has explained some of the reasons why Yahya Jammeh made a unilateral declaration of The Gambia as an Islamic State in mid-December last year. Ba added that many in the rural areas thought Jammeh intends to bring a new Islam because he thinks the Islam practiced in Gambia is an impure one.

Suntou: Your point is a valid one. Let all Gambians concentrate our energies to removing the sadness or resolving the cause of the accident through the ballot. Information reaching me from rural Gambia informs that many Gambians are angry in three ways regarding the declaration. Many in the rural areas thought Jammeh intends to bring a new Islam because he thinks the Islam practiced in Gambia is an impure one. They thought Jammeh intends to impose a new religion different from what they practice since he is always trying to impose one sort of practice or other on them such as “No one should pray on Sunday” and so forth.

The other anger is from those who understand what an Islamic state is and what repercussions it can have on the people, economy and culture.

And the third group are people who know that Jammeh is doing all this to our country just to gain recognition from the Arabs and eventually get a share from the oil money since the West IS ATTACHING STRINGS which standard he could not meet. So as you said we all should concentrate on the Democratic method to change the dilemma and the sadism in our lives.
