‘Stop Throwing Stones At Gambians in Diaspora’

Imam CeesayThe Imam of Detroit Islamic Center has admonished some Gambian Muslim clerics for “throwing stones” at Gambians in the Diaspora.

“It has come to my notice that some clerics in The Gambia are throwing venom at Gambians in the Diaspora, calling them all sorts of bad characters,” Imam Momodou Ceesay, himself a Gambian, said. “Some of these clerics even describe Gambians abroad as good for nothing people who do not love their country,” Imam Ceesay says in his weekly Friday programme on Kairo Radio.

Imam Ceesay considers such attacks as “rather unfortunate,” wondering why any cleric with “sound mind and wisdom will twist verses of the Holy Quran for his selfish interest.”

He says “this new generation of clerics needs to understand that the Quran was not revealed for the purpose of using it for anything other than what it is meant for; it must not be used to score political or personal gains,” the Erudite Cleric warns, enjoining venom-holding clerics to comport themselves within the confines of modesty and tell the truth or else “simply shut up. That is what our Prophet Muhammad [Peace be Upon Him] advised us to do.”

Imam Ceesay believes any person with the good knowledge of Quran must not for any reason reduce himself to the lowest rank. “Such a person is a Jewel who commands a lot of respect and admiration in society. He/she is a person who tells the truth and defends it at all times,” he says, brushing aside what he calls “unwarranted and unsubstantiated attacks on Gambians in the Diaspora. Clearly, there is no iota of truth in these attacks,” Imam Ceesays says, saluting hardworking Gambians abroad for adding value and meaning to the lives of their relatives and friends.

“I salute these people for bailing out their people with their remittances during the Holy Month of Ramadan and I expect them to continue their generousity pattern as we approach the Eid of Sacrifice. It is common knowledge that 90 percent of people in The Gambia depend on their relatives and friends abroad to make ends meet. These include even the clerics hauling insults at them. In fact, 90 percent of all the lofty buildings in that country are built by Diasporan Gambians. So without the help of Gambians abroad, there will be hunger and starvation in the country,” he says, advising insult-wielding clerics to be “wary of the fact that their insults go beyond their targets whose parents are their (clerics) own neighbours. In essence, they are insulting their neighbours – the very people they are refrained from offending.

Venerable Imam Momodou Ceesay. Whatever these shameful so-called clerics throw on the Gambian diaspora, Yaya Jammeh himself throws it back at them live on TV GRTS each time they meet him. How many times have we heard Yaya Jammeh belittling them, bashing them, discredit them and treat them as money believers in front their parents, families, congregation and the world live on TV. Verily we do not need to respond to these small clerics who have already sold their souls to the devil. They are attacking us simply because they cannot attack their devil master hailing live disrespect to them. Therefor they need to vent their anger at someone else as a substitute for the devil master’s insults. So they chose the distant people of the Gambia who are viewed the easiest targets without risking seeing them selves at the NIA. How many a times have we seen these so-called clerics in Kanilai, hosting “bukarabus”, night parties, beauty pageant contest, farming the devil’s lands, live on TV? They know they are accepting all these ungodly endeavors for material gains as amongst themselves they report each other to the master whence renouncing on their noble role for personal and selfish interest. I wish you were in the Gambia to see how these front-runner clerics lack respect from the citizen and their congregations? They dare not look at ordinary people in the eyes, they dive or show fake smiles and “assalamaleks” devoid of truth and substance and they know it. I pity these petty devil enablers because all of them will be thrown in the dustbin, the day their devil master is gone and they know it very well. They are fooling but themselves with their double tongues lies against Allah and believers.
We the ordinary Gambians know who are the real Allah Fearing Imams and verily these will be in their rightful places in the not distant future when the kanilai devil is no more.
Just take note and solace Imam Cessay. Allah will not have mercy on them for they transgressed and sold His verses for veil price and shall pay a heavy price for lying against Allah and the Gambians.

  3. Mr imam what’s your opinion about homosexuality in The Gambia as Muslim country??? Yes or no????? Thanks

  4. Yankuba Jobe

    بارك الله لك ولعائلتك

  5. Soninke, have you ever been molested by a homosexual in your extented family, community or elsewhere in the Gambia??? You know Soninke, to be honest, my hood in the Gambia don’t know thing like that………………I am concerned that some people are putting weight to such an obfuscating and distracting issue in our political discourse. You see, truely speaking, I think most folks do get belittled and indignated with the type of foolery as such.
Be a good muslim in your heart is obligation on to you as a muslim Soninke, for Allah knows what you and I don’t know and he knows them best.
Please don’t forget that Islam is a religion of tolerance and so therefore I could be named Bourne and still be muslim. Ask SCHOLARS to verify.
