Imam Bakawsu Fofana used this embedded YouTube video to explain his torture ordeal at the hands of President Yahya Jammeh’s beasts.
The former Imam of Sanchaba Sulay Jobe mosque (now the Imam and Alkalo of his newly inaugurated Sobeya Kunda village and mosque in Casamance) was also a victim of the Jammeh brutality three years ago. The cleric, who never minces words when it comes to telling the truth, especially to power, was illegally arrested and detained in 2012. He was physically and psychologically tortured during the nine-day detention at the National Intelligence Agency headquarters in Banjul. The torture became so wild that the venerable Imam was left nursing a fractured finger.
While going through hell at the NIA, Imam Fofana’s daughter died tragically. Fofana was released without charge. He was not given the space and time to mourn his daughter’s death in peace. Instead state security agents attempted to pin him down for failing to shut up or blink on propagating the word of truth. Imam Fofana was then advised to leave the land of his ancestors into the hands of a regime bent on crushing the truth and truth tellers. He has since been exiled in Casamance where he continues to teach and lead the Muslim community.
Imam Bakawsu’s inhumane treatment was followed by that of Imam Baba Leigh of Kanifing.
Kairo News will raise awareness around tortures perpetuated by the Jammeh regime. Every torture victim has a secret story to tell. The more these secrets are unravelled the better for the victims. This is necessary at a time when the world is standing tall in support of torture victims.
We salute all the torture victims for their bravery and firmness, which contradicts their torturers’ goal.
Ends
Allahu Akibar! Torture victim fighting for other toture victim. What a generou deed by Musa. I’m proud of Musa and Bakawsu for not allowing your horrible ordeal to overcome you. Whoever beats a person of Allah has certainly waged war with Him.
Allah will always be with you Imam Fofana. Jammeh would’ve been history if we have many clerics like you. Tears like yours are reaping the dictatorship apart. Jammeh and his cabal have been cursed.
We must never waiver in our fight to dethrone a man who had proven to be our fitna or musiba. Those who can pray do so because we need that also in the fight.
Tears dropped on my cheeks while listening to Imam Fofana’s somber story. May Allah pay your torturers and their masters with Falaq. There is no justification for torturing Man of God.
Bakawsu deserves a national award for preaching and believing in truth. This is why he will forever live in dignity.
