Sheriff Kebba Hyara, the father of the Gambia’s former Justice Minister Sheikh Tijan Hydara, was praised for his immense contribution and hard work towards the development of Tijaniyya brotherhood movement and Islam in general in the Gambia.

Sheriff Kebba Hydara will be also remembered for organizing an annual Islamic conference that draws thousands of faithfuls within and outside the country.

Born in Sanjal Kanikunda in Baddibou, Sheriff Hydara migrated with his father to Brufut in 1929. Hydara had since filled the shoes of his father by teaching and inculcating Islamic values in them.

Those who knew the late Caliph spoke well about him. They described him as a very unique person who did not believe in worldly wealth, for he would share almost everything he had with those who needed it most.
