Opposition Activist's Family Cries Foul

The family of an opposition activist of the United Democratic Party has cried foul about the arrest and subsequent detention of Kasim Fadera. Mr. Fadera, a petty trader in Jarra Soma in Lower River Region, was picked up by agents of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) last week.

Family sources said Fadera was escorted to Mansakonko before being secretly moved to the NIA headquarters in Banjul. Fadera has since been detained incommunicado. The breadwinner’s family is yet to know his whereabouts as both the police and the secret agents denied holding him.

The Fadera family could not understand the reasons for the arrest and illegal detention of Kasim. Mr. Fadera is believed to have been targeted for his “open opposition activism.”  He had been a victim of several arrest, detention and torture in the past. After the 1996 election, Fadera was seriously mistreated by the defunct July 22 movement boys. “He was beaten, electrocuted and almost got thrown inside a well,” one source confirmed. “Due to his opposition activism, Kasim had his canteen seized by Jarra West chief Yaya Jarjusey.

This madness needs to stop. The Diaspora needs to help the UDP re-organise itself by providing funds to the party. The missing link in the struggle is money! Money! Money!

    Thanks

RIP to Kebba Darboe, a strong UDP stalwart who died in Bristol, UK last week. My thoughts and prayers are for his family in Bristol and Gambia.

  3. I disagree on money as “missing link”. I am convince is poor leadership of dissidents/opposition front, lack of unity, partisan politics undermining liberation struggle (which is a national cause) and ineffective or not plausible UDP-“Party-led” strategy or against grand-coalition; considered “MERGER OF POLITICAL PARTIES” = IMPROVED OR SIMILAR BLUEPRINT OF NADD 2006 PACT AND MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING???

If every opposition party focus on its own partisan interests they will never uproot DICTATORSHIP, END PERSECUTION OF CITIZENS, THE SUFFERING (PLIGHT OF ALL GAMBIANS) AND LIBERATE NATION.

This cause is bigger than any individual or group of individuals, elites, cabal, clique, cronies, opposition political party, party leader, ethnic group and/or tribe.

    Thanks.

  4. WE (ALL “DISSIDENTS/OPPOSITION FRONT”); ARE GAMBIANS AND MUST UNITE AS “COMPATRIOTS” UNDER SPIRIT “NATIONAL UNITY”, “SOLIDARITY” & “ESPRIT DE CORPS” FOR “TEAM WORK” & “REVOLUTION”!

  5. WE (DISSIDENTS/OPPOSITION FRONT) LOST MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO END THE KANILAI MONSTER’S MISRULE & PUPPET APRC GOVERNMENT.

WE (DISSENTS/OPPOSITION FRONT) SHARE COMMON INTERESTS & COMMON GOAL, WHICH IS GETTING RID OF THE KANILAI MONSTER, SO WHY CAN’T WE UNITE???

LETS UNITE AND SET-UP A COMMON POLITICAL PLATFORM UNDER “ONE UMBRELLA” = “GRAND COALITION” = “MERGER OF POLITICAL PARTIES” = “UNITED NATIONAL FRONT”, PRIMARILY REQUIRED AND THEN ADDRESS THROUGH “UNITY & GENERAL CONSENSUS”, “MOU”, “OPPOSITION FRONT PACT”, “LEADERSHIP”, “STRATEGIES”, “TACTICS” AND A “TRANSITION PROGRAMME”???

  6. AFTER PUTTING DISSIDENTS/OPPOSITION FRONT IN ORDER THEN MOBILISE THE RESOURCES; ESPECIALLY “MONEY”, THE LAST RESORT TO START FLOWING, THROUGH PROPER, “NETWORK”, FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING, AUDIT, FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT & TRANSPARENCY (BY PRODUCING MONTHLY REPORTS TO AUGUST BODY SET-UP)!!!!!

Dawda, try and do that without money and see what will happen. By the way; I do not understand the heck you are talking about. So I will leave you to it. Maybe someone else with ample time to waste will engage you.

    Thanks

  8. Good Luck Mr Touray. Nine out of ten Dawda is Kobo from bantaba.

  9. The main problem is finance. All opposition parties get funded by members who contribute regularly to stare the affairs of the the party. Gambians in the diaspora need to stop the empty talk and help the various parties to stand up to Jammeh. I really applaud the opposition members in The Gambia. They are risking their lives and properties just for the future of the nation. Even an oppositions family members are denied jobs.gambia is one of those countries that even fair a pupil teacher for attending an opposition rally. Very few lawyers are will be willing to represent an opposition member for fear of being targeted. We need to finance these guys. They are at the forefront of the battle.

  10. @ Lafia Touray la Manju on “I do not understand the heck you are talking about. So I will leave you to it. Maybe someone else with ample time to waste will engage you.”

A simple question for you is that; What has money to do with this report (caption “Opposition Activist’s Family Cries Foul”) for a citizen politically persecuted, ongoing victimisation, human rights abuse, the arbitrary arrests, detentions, disappearances, political activities stifle, election frauds, among scores of atrocities and abuse of power?

Also where and who are you banking on for “money”?

How much do you want and If they got it what to do with that “money”?

  11. What the “heck” am “talking about.” ARE SOLUTIONS TO A CITIZEN’S CASE, GENERAL GAMBIAN PROBLEM (ESPECIALLY DISSIDENTS & OPPOSITION FRONT PROBLEMS); challenges & way forward; “in pursuit of truth, justice, freedom & liberty” ! = Liberate nation from a tyrant, APRC and brutal puppet government.
