A spokesman for the opposition coalition backing Gambia’s president-elect on Monday called on the outgoing President Yahya Jammeh to step down immediately.
At a press conference, Lawyer Mai Ahmad Fatty said Mr. Jammeh’s last week’s statement rejecting and nullifying the December 1st election results were unconstitutional.
Mai Ahmad Fatty, the leader of opposition Gambia Moral Congress, accused Yahya Jammeh of “undermining the transition process.” He said the opposition coalition would not recognize the outgoing President’s proposal to appoint new Supreme Court justices to hear his (Jammeh’s) court action against the election results.
