Kairo News has just learnt that Gambian security investigators have been pursuing a soldier with regard to the Sunday’s arson attack on the bureau of the ruling APRC of President Yahya Jammeh in Kanifing.
The arson attack, which followed two other recent attacks in the Greater Banjul Area and the Kombos, has heightened fears among people as well as kept the regime on its toes. The name of the suspect who is believed to be on the run is yet to be revealed. A combined team of security investigators are doing their best to find answers to the arsonist’s motivation. In that, the fugitive soldier’s associates have been interrogated. None of them knows the fugitive soldier’s whereabouts or what might have motivated him to set the APRC bureau on fire.
However, Kairo News sources said the arson attack was borne out of anger. “You know majority of the soldiers feel they are betrayed by President Jammeh who relies more on the Police Intervention Unit. Besides, soldiers complained of poor conditions of service. But they see the PIU and other security units licking the honey pot,” said our source. “A short conversation with soldiers instil fear in you. Yahya Jammeh is just sitting on an egg; he knows it, that is why he does not want soldiers other than State Guards to come close to him.”
Kairo News will try to get to the bottom of this arson attack.

What you sow with supposed national security apparatuses, so you scythe. Jammeh alone with his hypocrite dirty mouth in the midst of Gambians is nothing absolutely. If this is true of a soldier in the Gambia’s military, it means that all soldiers are not what Jammeh thinks he has ‘constructed’ them into, citizen who could be sent to torture and kill their nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and even their fathers as Jammeh might will.
Damn!, he said. Who the hell is this lunatic want to stake the lifes of the whole Gambia for the top civil servant seat, he thinks he has staked his life for, to get?? And he said to himself, ‘No this is too much now and has gone beyond limits and therefore never too late to act.
Impunity, violence and oppression doesn’t bring peace and stability but all the way round opposite; fear, hatred, unstability desire for revenge and the wage of war. There is no sacred Gambian peace to help in this situation.
Or for the sake of speculations, was it a mounted attack in victimising themselves for ulterior motives?
Whatever the motive and whoever the culprit(s), it is a sure sign that all is not well in the country.
Jammeh should be advised to understand that threatening violence is not the way to solve the problems of a nation facing very serious life and death challenges everyday, and when that violence he constantly threatens erupts, it may not produce his anticipated outcome.
The Gambia is a nation sitting on a massive power keg that can explode any second, and how we manoeuvre ourselves out of this dangerous and tricky situation is everyone’s responsibility.
Belated the call for everyone’s responsibility to thwart an inevitable vicious circle of revenges. I think we have passed that stage. There are many who saw the crackdown on the udp as a blessing in disguise to do away with “trouble some ” fellow citizens -especially those with mandinka ethnic origin. .
People like me have always underscored the importance of standing by those whose sanctity have been encroached upon. We are deluded, if we think the cries and sorrows of people arbitrary killed, jailed or exiled will have no consequence. There are many people illegally wronged by this regime and seemly the critical point has been reached. Violence anywhere results in counter violence. And beyond a critical point, no group or entity has a monopoly over violence.
