Gov’t Threat Looms Over #GambiaHasDecided Activists

“Gambians, I hereby report to you that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has threatened to arrest the #GambiaHasDecided campaign
crew and sympathizers,” said civil society activist Madi Jobarteh in a
statement obtained by this reporter.

Over these past days, members of Gambia National Army and the NIA have launched a crackdown on the group and went to the extreme of removing #GambiaHasDecided banners activists have displayed at were displayed by strategic locations in the Greater Banjul Area. The move raised serious concerns over the outgoing President readiness to hand over power to Adama Barrow, declared winner of December 1 election.

“We must not allow this to happen. We must not allow our freedom to be
reversed by criminals under the cover of the NIA,” he said.

Jobarteh urged Gambians to stand firm on their ground  and wear their
#GambiaHasDecided T-shirts and flags because ‘Gambia has decided.’

“The Gambia has decided and no force on earth can stop that. All Gambians at home and abroad must stand up strong and determined that we will not allow our hard-won freedom to be destroyed or reversed,” Jobarteh continued.

The tiny West African nation is engulfed into an unprecedented
post-electoral crisis. While the newly elected President Adama Barrow
has vowed to assume office come January 19, the defeated incumbent has made it clear that only ‘Allah can deny him victory.’ The regional
bloc ECOWAS has threatened to send troups into Gambia if Jammeh
continues to cling on power…
