Detention without trial andunconstitutional arrests of people have become common in the Gambia under the dictatorial regime of President Yahya Jammeh.
However, this situation has worsened since the alleged assault on the State House by former State Guard Commander and eight others last year. Since the December 30th foiled coup, there have been mass arrests of parents, wives, brothers, sisters and associates of those said to be behind the failed. These arrests have not excluded minors as young as 13 years of age, which is a total violation of the child rights protocols and the Gambian Constitution.
Yusupha Lowe, 13, and Pa Alieu Lowe, 19, are still being held at the National Intelligence Agency detention centre in Banjul. They have so far spent 41 days in solitary confinement, Human Rights for All investigator on the ground confirmed.
Their family has been denied accesd to them since they were picked up by plainclothes officers who claimed to have got arresting orders from the Office of the President in Banjul. The reasons for their arrest and detention have not been communicated to the Lowe family. And to top it all, they have been continuously missing classes in school, another violation of their fundamental human rights.
It could be recalled that Jariatou Lowe was released on Thursday, February 5, 2015, after spending 36 days in detention at NIA.
They have been held for 41 days without being released or taken to a court of law
The young people arrested and detained at NIA are the son, younger brother and ex-wife respectively of Baboucar ‘Bai’ Lowe, former Warrant Officer Class 2 of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), a Gambian dissident based in Germany. Mr. Lowe, who escaped unharmed, was implicated in the 30 December 2014.

As an Englishman…I feel bitterly ashamed that the silence of our creed has become deafening. To turn our eyes away from such pain and agony is nothing short of international cowardice.

Yahya Jammeh….is what you have more than what you need?

What mercy Michael Gunjur….??? These kids & hosts of other relatives captured, incarcerated & being tortured in broad daylight are ALL innocent. They CAN’T be responsible for whatever a relative & or love ones have said or done… There’s NO doubt the bitter experiences they are being put through will impact on their various lives FOREVER…. Evil yaya Jammeh will reap what it sow…. We will also break the banks or boundaries whenever it is captured, liquidated & or exterminated & go after its children Mariama, Mohammed, its evil concubine & even its Bojang mother if she is alive by then… Whatever goes round must come around, like the dictates of life…. These are indeed very bitter lessons that has emboldened our resolve & courage to finish off the task until successful. God help Gambia & continue to bless us in our noble endeavours to reclaim our suffering motherland from the poison infested jaws of the murderous kanilai devil worshipping predatory bandit; Ameen.
Who shall make the children suffer so to come back on to you like a hail of lava, lightening and thunder
