The former United Nations Secretary General has not only bade President Yahya Jammeh farewell but he also advocated for “smooth and peaceful transition of power in Banjul.”
In a statement published below, Kofi Annan said the “smooth and peaceful transition would send a signal of hope to all Gambians that they can choose their own destinies through the democratic exercise of their right to vote.”
On December 2nd, I bade President Jammeh farewell, and I stand by that.
I have since learned that Yaya Jammeh is contesting the results of the recent presidential elections, after having initially conceded defeat and congratulated his successor.
I welcomed President Jammeh’s statesmanlike concession following his defeat in the elections and encourage him to honour his word.
A smooth and peaceful transition of power in Banjul would send a signal of hope to all Gambians that they can choose their own destinies through the democratic exercise of their right to vote.
Ends
Yaya Jammeh has committed a treasonable offense. He must be removed from the office of presidency dead or alive . We call on our patriotic indigenous citizens in our national army to arrest or possibly kill him. Yaya is wanted man and he is public enemy number one in The Gambia. We must begin the efforts of citizens arrest to ensure that he face justice in the country.
