Truly, the pill of truth is hard to swallow but reality we must face and accept. When I get into a tight place and everything goes against me, till it seems as though I could not hang on a minute longer, I never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn. I will not change my stance on the issue of Amadou Sanneh and don’t ask why because every situation does not need an answer. I’m a firm believer that I don’t worry about anything I can’t control. You just never give up, no matter how hard the challenges are, and I will observe this world with a healthy dose of criticism and I will not just follow the herd like somebody else might do for freedom and democracy are dreams you never give up on.
My father taught me to be independent minded and to always believe that my future could be whatever I dreamt it to be. One thing that was passed on from generation to generation in my family was to be independent minded. That was how my father lived and that is how I will live. Nothing could be worse than the fear that one had given up too soon, and left one unexpended effort that might have saved the world.
No army can defeat youths that will not give up on their dream of freedom and a better country. So to you my brothers and sisters, when you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place. My fellow Gambian youths don’t give up just because there are too many nay-sayers out there who will try to discourage you. Don’t listen to them. The only one who can make you give up on our journey for a better Gambia is yourself.
“Never give up on something that you can’t go a day without thinking about.” Winston Churchill
We cannot go a day without thinking about economic freedom, justice and liberty for the Gambia, our Homeland. So never give up. We cannot go a day without thinking about Amadou Sanneh, so never give up to make sure he gets his freedom.
We might not be ahead today, but I know we will get there as long as we do not stop. People may influence us in one way or the other but in the end, it’s our call.
Life is like an 8-mile race. You never stop or rest until you’ve reached the finish line and I ain’t stopping until the Gambia, our homeland is truly free and liberated.
