The Gambia’s U-19 men’s beach volleyball team enjoyed a visit to the country’s minister of Youth and Sports following their exploits at the African Youth Games earlier in July in Algeria, where they finished third to Mozambique and Ghana.
The result means they are through to the 3rd Youth Olympics Games in Argentina this year, and will be among Africa’s three nations to represent the continent in the beach volleyball series.
“We are very proud of the entire team and on behalf of the Government of Gambia I congratulate the team for qualifying for Youth Olympics Games in Argentina and being ranked third in Africa’,” Minister Hadrammeh Sidibeh said on Monday in Banjul. “It is a pride for all Gambians and I sincerely thank the technical team, the federation and all the players for the efforts and relevant service to the nation.”
Minister Sidibeh reaffirmed government support to the development of volleyball in The Gambia and urged the federation to remain supportive to the development of young ones.
