STATEMENT FROM PHARMACEUTICAL SOCIETY OF THE GAMBIA (PSG) ON THE 20TH DECEMBER 2016
The Pharmaceutical Society of the Gambia is a professional body which includes membership of all practicing Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical support personnel in the Gambia. Members of the Society are responsible for providing pharmaceutical care and support to all patients, both at public and private health facilities and pharmacies throughout the country. They are critical members of health care delivery team. They are not only responsible for management of pharmaceuticals throughout the health supply chain, but they also provide valuable information on medicines use to health care service providers and the general public.
The Society has been keenly following the political developments and activities in The Gambia and is deeply concerned about the political uncertainty in the country.
For the Pharmaceutical Association, patient care is our top most priority in ensuring access to medications and optimal pharmaceutical care. In an event of civil unrest this will be jeopardized as the pharmaceutical supplies and the manpower will not be adequate to meet the requirements, thus further endangering the lives of the populace.
The Pharmaceutical Society of The Gambia therefore strongly urges the outgoing President Yahya Jammeh to respect the will of the people as determined by the 1st of December 2016 general election for a peaceful transition of power to the President elect Adama Barrow in the interest of peace and stability in our beloved country.
We want to take this opportunity to congratulate the newly elected President of The Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow and wish him the very best in his term of office.
The President PSG
