The Gambia’s state security agents have detained four senior government officials. The officials — Nuha Touray, Secretary to Cabinet; Fafa Sanyang, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum, Momodou Badjie, Managing Director of Gambia National Petroleum Company. Also in state custody is Dawda O. Fadera, Permanent Secretary of Personnel Management Office.
Family sources confirmed that the four officials were picked up last night. They still remain in state custody, although the government is yet to explain the reasons for their arrest and subsequent detention. Families of the detainees who spoke to Kairo News said they don’t know any details about the arrest. They were not allowed access to the detainees either. The wife of one of the detainees said she does not know where her husband is being detained.
The men are believed to be held at the headquarters of the National Intelligence Agency in Banjul.
In another development, Kairo News has learnt about the overnight arrest and detention of Seedy Kanyi, the director of Gambia Transport.
Badjie, Sanyang, Fadera and Kanyi hail from Bwiam, Kwinella, Nema and Dobo, respectively.
